My comments on tutoring Poetry : Writer and Reader of Poetry

I am an Honors Graduate from California State University Stanislaus and I am knowledgeable on many subjects. I have had former experience in tutoring and I am more than willing to work with students of any age. I am proficient in English, Social Science, Study Skills, and many other areas. As an avid reader and excellent writer I am able to work with students on their writing skills at any level.
I am a hard worker and expect a similar attitude from the students I tutor. I tend to work out the problem for the student on one problem and then I watch as they go through a similar one to ensure they have understood. This repetative practice has proven efficient. I also tend to make the student practice more than the required assignments needed to be accomplished to ensure a firm grasp of the material.

A Little Bit About Me...

I feel like I'm very much a hands-on type of instructor. I really believe that the best way to understand something is to keep practicing it and so I like to guide and help speed up this process by giving lots of examples and feedback. I also believe that there's no use learning something if you don't learn it right and it's that belief that makes me so dedicated to my job.
Graduated with honors from Modesto Junior College with an Associates in Music. Four semesters of Piano at the college, five semesters of Voice, four semesters of Music Theory and ear training, four semesters of choir, and two semesters of Electronic Music. What I like about helping people learn more and do better in communicating and expressing themselves is that it gives me a chance to "give back" all that I know in a special way. I teach people how to do things through a method of "learning by doing" with practical (and many times personal experience) exercises. Writing and communicating is a craft that anyone can do if they understand how to "map out" their thoughts and ideas in an outline and then "build from there" filling in the gaps.
I have more than three decades of experience managing and working in marketing, PR, communications, the web, and media relations. In all of that work, I have always been the one "teaching people" how to use technology and computer, as well as how to write anc communicate. My passion, energy, drive, know-how, knowledge, inventiveness, and infectious optimism will all play a key role in me mentoring ... read more

I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's in English, and I am currently working on obtaining my Master's degree in English. Although my focus is in Literature, I have a vast knowledge of writing and composition, creative writing, and English grammar. During my undergraduate studies, I was a member of the Provost Honors program. For the two years I was in that program, I worked extensively on the research and writing of a 30-page Honors thesis, which I presented at the college's annual Honors Thesis Conference.
I absolutely love anything English--Literature, writing, reading, and yes, even grammar--but more importantly, I love working with children, teens, and adults to help them achieve a better understanding of the English discipline. I truly believe that there is something valuable to learn about the human connection that occurs during reading and writing. Therefore ... read more

I believe student engagements is the key to learning. Hence I use various EDI strategies to ensure students are engaged in learning math concepts. I believe in group work and collaborations. I believe in modeling a math concept and right away checking for understanding. I use white boards, random selection and think-pair-share to stimulate learning in my students and check for their understanding.

A Little Bit About Me...

I truly enjoy when I get the chance to work one-on-one with a student. I am the kind of teacher you will see sitting on the floor with a student, acting things out in front of the class, making up songs to go with the curriculum, and full of energy. I understand the difficulty that many children have when learning in a noisy, busy, and crowded classroom. Tutoring can give me that chance to reach a child who otherwise might get lost in his/her classroom. I believe that all children can learn, but that they each learn at a different pace, and in a different way. By one-on-one, and in a quiet environment, some students may rise to the occassion and be happy and more successful in school.
