My comments on tutoring Poetry : Writer and Reader of Poetry

I am a hard worker and expect a similar attitude from the students I tutor. I tend to work out the problem for the student on one problem and then I watch as they go through a similar one to ensure they have understood. This repetative practice has proven efficient. I also tend to make the student practice more than the required assignments needed to be accomplished to ensure a firm grasp of the material.
I am an Honors Graduate from California State University Stanislaus and I am knowledgeable on many subjects. I have had former experience in tutoring and I am more than willing to work with students of any age. I am proficient in English, Social Science, Study Skills, and many other areas. As an avid reader and excellent writer I am able to work with students on their writing skills at any level.

Results-driven tutor seeking to share my love of knowledge!

I graduated high school with a full International Baccalaureate Program Diploma, and a 4.53 weighted GPA. I then went on to receive a full ride scholarship to Santa Clara University for Computer Engineering, where I took part in the University's Honors Program. There I completed 3 years of study in computer science, classical languages, and Spanish, before deciding to change directions and gain real-world experience. After a brief leave of absence, I entered Licensing Education Courses for the field of Insurance, passed the License Exam, and went to work as the Vice President of Marketing for Financial and Insurance Services, an independent insurance brokerage in Fresno, CA. Feeling the urge to once again to change directions, I am taking took time to pursue my passion for poetry, competing in several contests and publishing an anthology of poetry on Amazon (“Automatic Phantom”). I have more than three decades of experience managing and working in marketing, PR, communications, the web, and media relations. In all of that work, I have always been the one "teaching people" how to use technology and computer, as well as how to write anc communicate. My passion, energy, drive, know-how, knowledge, inventiveness, and infectious optimism will all play a key role in me mentoring, teaching, and tutoring.
What I like about helping people learn more and do better in communicating and expressing themselves is that it gives me a chance to "give back" all that I know in a special way. I teach people how to do things through a method of "learning by doing" with practical (and many times personal experience) exercises. Writing and communicating is a craft that anyone can do if they understand how to "map out" their thoughts and ideas in an outline and then "build from th ... read more

I spent two years working for the University's Writing Center. I tutored ESL students and Freshmen on how best to improve their essay writing skills in either one-on-one or group sessions. I've tutored grammar, MLA and APA formatting, reading, writing, philosophy, and test-taking skills. A Little Bit About Me...

I absolutely love anything English--Literature, writing, reading, and yes, even grammar--but more importantly, I love working with children, teens, and adults to help them achieve a better understanding of the English discipline. I truly believe that there is something valuable to learn about the human connection that occurs during reading and writing. Therefore, I believe in using different types of learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) in order to aid my students in a better understanding of English and finding that connection.
I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's in English, and I am currently working on obtaining my Master's degree in English. Although my focus is in Literature, I have a vast knowledge of writing and composition, creative writing, and English grammar. During my undergraduate studies, I was a member of the Provost Honors program. ... read more

Therefore, my goal is, in part, to help my students love learning and to translate the love for learning into higher achievements.
