My comments on tutoring Guitar : I've played acoustic guitar for 15 years. I have performed solo and in a band in many small live events, from dramatic plays to weddings to music festivals. Primarily I play folk/bluegrass music, but have experience playing blues as well. Teaching is limited to basic instruction.

I received my B.S. degree in Biology, and am knowledgeable about many sub-disciplines, including life sciences (plants/animals), genetics, evolution, and anatomy. I am generally able to explain difficult biological concepts in a more conversational way. I've worked with high school youth in the past (approx. 2 years experience) in a crew structure teaching job skills (resume writing, interviewing, etc.) and basic biological/ecological principles. I have worked with family and friends to teach basic personal finance and resume-writing tips to help them achieve great results. I am primarily an environmental consultant, and I routinely use MS Office programs to analyze, organize, and present data in easy-to-understand ways. I've taught several co-workers, family members, and friends how to use these programs effectively, and shown them helpful tips to make it easier.

I am in the Education field to make a difference in student’s lives. I hope to do this through instruction and example. I believe these two elements intertwined and essential for any educator. I am value the “Teacher as facilitator” education model. Today, I classify my teaching style as a constructivist theory with humanist elements. I believe that a combination of these three models will ensure the greatest amount of learning for students as I prepare them for further education. A Little Bit About Me...

I've been a musician for 30 years, recording, performing, touring, producing and composing. The City Pages chose me as it's 'Jazz Musician of The Year' in 2004 and I have been awarded McKnight and Jerome fellowships. I did not start playing the saxophone (my main instrument) until my 21st birthday. I then practiced a lot and have a very clear idea of how to learn and teach.
I love teaching and working with anyone who wants to learn to play and instrument or any aspect of music especially kids. While helping them learn it is important to let then have fun, challenge them just enough for them to make consistent progress and encourage them to join ensembles or even start a band on their own.
