A Little Bit About Me...

I love the field of education and am especially talented when it comes to working with elementary-aged students (all subjects). I enjoy tutoring older students in Spanish (I'm fluent), history, English, social studies, reading and E.S.L. My weak subjects for older students are math and science. I have a B.A. in Social Work with a Spanish minor. I have teaching certificates in elementary ed., special ed., teaching English as a 2nd Language & Spanish. I love teaching and strive every day to become a better teacher, as my career goal is to teach at the university level. I find teaching exciting and difficult. In my discussion sections, I adopt an attitude not of authority over students but of collaboration with students; I try to create and facilitate an environment of collective engagement with a given text or topic. I miss being able to work with students one-on-one, particularly on academic writing, though I do hold weekly office hours and frequently conference with students who are motivated to seek out extra help. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching. Working with a student one-to-one or even in small groups allows a student to have their individual needs met. Tutoring has the advantage of catching the student where they are struggling to comprehend. I am patient, creative, and prefer to model examples for my students. I believe that a strong foundation in the basics will help a student grasp more difficult concepts. My favorite venue is the use of a dry erase board and having the student model back an example to evaluate if they understood the concepts or the steps to the solution.

A Little Bit About Me...

I spent two years teaching and tutoring Autistic children. I aided in routine skills, verbal skills and dealing with change. I have worked with two different children on these skills. I also have extensive skills in writing and researching for my research papers. I also have great knowledge of APA format and can write an essay in no time flat.
I love working with children. I have helped with pre-K and grade school children with an emphasis on working with Autistic children. All children can succeed in school given the right tools; just because they do not get the idea from one method does not mean that they won't get it from a different method. I think that all children can learn regardless of age, learning ability or other status, if given a chance.
