A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children. I have helped with pre-K and grade school children with an emphasis on working with Autistic children. All children can succeed in school given the right tools; just because they do not get the idea from one method does not mean that they won't get it from a different method. I think that all children can learn regardless of age, learning ability or other status, if given a chance.
I spent two years teaching and tutoring Autistic children. I aided in routine skills, verbal skills and dealing with change. I have worked with two different children on these skills. I also have extensive skills in writing and researching for my research papers. I also have great knowledge of APA format and can write an essay in no time flat.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been an educator for over 10 years. Even as an undergrad, I was interested in working with children and spent my summers employed with the YMCA's youth programs. My experience is working with at-risk youth from kindergarten to high school seniors. My Master's degree in education combines coursework in special education and talented and gifted. I have tutored and taught students in all subjects both core curriculum and electives. My certification covers Kindergarten through Ninth grade.
I enjoy teaching. Working with a student one-to-one or even in small groups allows a student to have their individual needs met. I love teaching and strive every day to become a better teacher, as my career goal is to teach at the university level. I find teaching exciting and difficult. In my discussion sections, I adopt an attitude not of authority over students but of collaboration with students; I try to create and facilitate an environment of collective engagement with a given text or topic. I miss being able to work with students one-on-one, particularly on academic writing, though I do hold weekly office hours and frequently conference with students who are motivated to seek out extra help. I love watching the face of a child when they realize that they have mastered a word that previously eluded them. When I tutor a child in reading, I will ask them questions about what they like to learn or how they like to have the teacher teach them and then base my tutoring off their answers. This way, the child feels involved in the process as well as gains the knowledge in a manner that feels correct for them to learn. I have had much success with tutoring children this way. I love the chance to make a child a reader.
Since I was a young girl, the English language has been as important to me as breathing. I have tutored elementary school children thru the S.M.A.R.T. program as well as through classroom assistance programs.
