A Little Bit About Me...

Since graduating from college with BS degrees in physical science, chemistry, and environmental education, I have taught math (basic through pre-calculus) and science (biology, chemistry, physics, life science, physical science) 5th through 12th grade in both private and public schools. I worked two years at a Sylvan Learning Center as a Lead Teacher (and Director of Education) in almost all of their programs (Writing, Academic Reading, General Math, Algebra, Geometry, and SAT prep). In the last seven years, I have had my own part-time business tutoring and working with clients who have learning disabilities.

A Little Bit About Me...

Children and adults learn in different ways. Visual, auditory, kinesthetic are three ways that people can learn, I happen to be mostly kinesthetic. I alter how I teach depending on what my students need and what the resources are. I do use a constructivist teaching style to do this. I do believe that a student rises to the expectations of the instructor. I also believe that the responsibility of learning should be increasingly the students as they take over their own education away from the instructor. While the instructor is giving over the job of education to the student they should still contribute to broadening the students knowledge horizons by offering challenges.

I have earned dual undergraduate degrees, a BA in Mathematics and a BA in Economics, from Eastern Washington University. While attending EWU I worked as a econometrics tutor and teaching assistant. I have been admitted to a PhD program at Washington State University for this coming fall. Through tutoring at EWU, I have demonstrated an ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations.
