A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of Brigham Young University with a BA in English. Psychology and child development were part of my curriculum. When our children were all in school, I started substitute teaching K-12. I especially enjoyed working with K-5. I have worked as a substitute, permanent substitute and teaching assistant for about 13 years in the Concord School District (NH) and the Provo School District (UT). Some assignments were a few months long while teachers were recovering from surgery or illness. I had the opportunity to attend seminars on "Autism" and "Image Writing". During the last 13 years, I have been in many different classrooms, taught varied subjects and dealt with all kinds of students and behaviors. I am also fluent in the French language.

I like to laugh, have fun, and create a comfortable environment for individuals to learn. It is important to have that type of space so as to ensure that students do not form a sense of anxiety when entering the room or when studying that particular subject. I love creating a variety of activities: group, individual, hands-on, problem solving, comprehension and reading, and activities where students have to get up and move around. As long as concepts and terms are rehearsed and relearned students will be able to store it better than if they learned it once and then move on to the next concept.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated summa cum laude with my BA and MA in Italian linguistics and while that seems to be a degree that is not very marketable in the field of general tutoring, I have studied other subjects at the graduate level which I believe qualify me to tutor younger students. Beside my experience teaching Italian, I also taught Spanish level 1 and 2 at the high school level, studied French for 5 years and am currently studying Arabic at UW Madison. Included in those studies was an in depth study of world history, especially European history. I used to teach French to some couple in Janesville as well essay reading for students in France and Senegal. I learned French when I was 5 years old, and since then I never stopped.
