After the student understands the concrete real life connection, then we move into the abstract representation of the same concept in print. Each student has strengths and weaknesses that I try to understand and adapt lessons to their unique method of understanding. I also find it effective to teach students with familiar vocabulary that they already understand and then build new ideas upon their previous knowledge.
