Having graduated as a Phi Beta Kappa Scholar from UNC-Chapel Hill, I have always achieved a level of excellence in education. I have earned two bachelor of science (B.S.) degrees in Biology and Chemistry. As a result of achieving mastery in these areas, I have tutored students in subjects such as Genetics, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics and Calculus. Through tutoring, I have learned that it helps me enrich my own knowledge about the subject matter thus, allowing me to approach concepts/problems in different ways.
In my own studies I have learned the importance of gaining a firm grasp of fundamental knowledge in order to apply it to situations that one has never encountered. I have always believed that a good teacher is the best tool to help students learn. Having personal experience with learning disabilities, I do not think that they prevent anyone from learning; rather, they provide students with a better understanding of themselves. Realizing that we all learn differently, I believe that teaching should incorporate multiple methods of presentation. I think that demonstrations and examples, which relate to everyday life, are two of the best methods when learning a new concept. I have experience with children and adults with ADHD and Asperger’s Syndrome, and found they perform best when interested. As a patient and understanding person, I adapt my teaching style to reflect the needs of each student.
