More About This Tutor...

My teaching style is interactive, many of my former students would characterize it as "coaching". I always empower the student to find their way and to have them become "pros" in the learning process. I do not do the work for them, but I show them how they can make their tasks and finishing them more efficient. I am a firm believer in the philosophy that edication is not preparation for life, it is life itself. Experience is key.
Over 13 years of working with students that were not scholars initially. After learning skills to improve their educational/learning experience, they became more scholarly, and enjoyed learning. This is key. They just need to change their perspective, and learn how to make "learning" enjoyable, like it was in kindergarden.

I had volunteered my time to tutored some kids in my neighborhood. This was the time while i was in college. I have tutored the subject of Math 8th grade level and Math in the second grade level. I have volunteered to tutored a friend in college the subject of French at Hunter College. She received a good grade and was happy. I was able to make a good impact on their learning and achievement.
I would explain to the students the rule of grammar in French and the rule of mathematics, set up some problems for them to resolve and this way they have a very good understanding of the subjects and able to perform on the subject independently.

When I am teaching my students, I am someone who has passion in all of the work that I do. I've always wanted to be a teacher and I want to make a positive impact in their lives. I know that all children can learn, whether or not they may have a learning disability. Knowing that all students work at different paces or need learn by different styles (hands-on, visual, oral) I try to incorporate that into all of my lesson plans so they can get the best out of a lesson. I am a very loving, caring and passionate person, especially when it comes to education and teaching children. To me, teaching isn't a job; it's a lifestyle and I try my best to give 110% everyday.

I believe as an educator you have to understand the topic you are teaching and the students your are teaching. As a teacher you are dealing with various levels of learning as well different personalities. I believe you have to be open to what works for the individual and the classroom. Many young students do not understand why they must learn and why it is important. We as educators must show students how education applies to all life, especially theirs. Passion and drive can be all the difference for a childs success. Therefore inspiration is vital and we must provide it to the best of our abilities.
Working with students and education has been a part of my life for about 11 years. I first began doing so in high school, around 1999 working as a volunteer with the YMCA. Eventually I became a counselor and would work my way up to Camp Director. I am proud to say that I am t ... read more

I am a strong believer that we all have our own way of learning and it is important to be flexible to the needs of each individual. I have worked as a Counselor for Disabled Adults and see that no matter where a person is developmentally, there is a way to help them achieve a higher level. Patience, creativity and providing a non-judgemental environment are key to helping children and even adults to achieve success. Even the smallest steps forward are still steps forward and should be acknowledged and praised.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the State University of New York at SUNY New Paltz and I have matriculated into the Master of Arts in Biology program at the same university. As a result of my many research and laboratory reports I have excellent writing and typing skills and have completed many writing assignments including numerous essays in various fields as a requirement of completing my Bachelor of Science degree. Because I have coursework at the graduate level in the field of biology, I have taught at the college level and will continue to do so next semester, so I have roughly 1 year of experience teaching students.
I have several years experience working with children and adults in the education field. The students I have taught at the college level ranged from late teens to early 30s. As I have worked with such a wide range of ages I am familiar ... read more

Ever since I was young, I have had a strong affinity for teaching others, particularly in Spanish. As a double major in Psychology and Spanish, I have a strong understanding of the development and motivations of people as well as a passion for Spanish language and culture. After studying abroad in Spain in the fall of 2007, my passion for Spanish intensified, helping me to realize that teaching Spanish is definitely the career path I must follow. In the past year, I have gained valuable experience as a Spanish tutor for Loyola College students and athletes as well as a volunteer tutoring ESL to those Hispanics eagerly trying to learn English in Baltimore. In the summer of 2007, I interned as a teacher’s assistant in The Children’s Village, a residential treatment center for children, which gave me experience in the extreme challenges of teaching children with severe emotional problem ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a high school English teacher, which requires strong reading, writing, and communication skills. As such, I work with all levels of students, from those with learning disabilities to those in honors classes. This teaching experience has provided me with insights into how students learn and the best approaches to help them grasp difficult concepts. I also have had the unique experience of learning Spanish throughout high school and college. In fact, as a study abroad participant, I realized how difficult it is to learn a new language, which is a lesson I keep in mind during my teaching and tutoring work. I have tutored all levels of English and Spanish language students and have extensive experience working with various age groups.
