A Little Bit About Me...

Having earned my college degrees as an adult, I am particularly interested in assisting adults in achieving their educational goals. I taught GED Preparation courses for seven years at the local Adult Education Program and assisted approximately 30 students in obtaining their GED. English and math were the main subject matter for these tests and study/test taking skills were reviewed. In my current position as the Executive Director of a local human service organization, I have flexibility in my schedule to meet the needs of a student.

My teaching style revolves around making my learners, whether young or old, feel good about themselves and the process of learning. I understand that each learner is unique and that one size does not fit all. I am especially interested in building, as much as possible, a positive rapport between the learner and myself. I understand clearly that a learner can become very frustrated when trying to absorb and comprehend information that may be foreign to him or her. I am easy going and have a good amount of patience. A Little Bit About Me...

I have wanted to teach since I was in second grade, and am currently working toward my license in Massachusetts. I believe that knowledge is an intimate thing, and that learning should be fun, and confidence-building. I use eliciting techniques, bringing student knowledge to the table first, and then build upon it. Knowing a student is important for preparing relevant materials for class. I believe technology is an important tool that can enhance the learning process when implemented appropriately. My Zen professor in college taught our class that in order to be a good teacher, one must be a good student. I strive to embody that principle.
