A Little Bit About Me...

Working with middle school students is an adventure. The students all have different ways of learning, so blackboard work is a great way for them to visualize, and I also use 3 dimensional models when they are appropriate. My experience showed me that the students that wanted to learn would stay after school to get more individualized attention, which I was always available to give them. That moment when they understood the math concept I was teaching was the best part.
I am very good at math, so in college I got into the tutoring program for inner city elementary students and the student I tutored showed remarkable improvement in her math grades as a result. Many years later I was accepted into the Alternate Route to Certification II program and received my Math 7-12 teaching certificate in May 2003.

It is my belief that most students that seek out the extra help of a tutor have a much greater capacity to learn than they realize. It is upon that belief that all of my tutoring is centered around. I believe that most students can understand mathematics with a proper explanation. For example, the order of operations is usually presented to students without explanation for its existence. This gives the false sense that it is an arbitrary rule. I enjoy sharing my understanding to students, but I also enjoy providing a role model for my students.
