I enjoy teaching children and adults of all ages, although most of my experience has come from teaching college age kids. I believe that everyone learns in different ways and one aspect of teaching I enjoy the most is working with someone to find the method of learning that is best for them. Once someone has discovered their method of learning it makes the process so much more enjoyable for both the student and myself. I am very patient, easy going and considerate and work hard to connect with my students as both an educator, friend and role model.
As a double major in Economics and Sociology I gained extensive experience with both mathematics as well as writing and oral presentations. I enjoy teaching all age groups. I especially like working with High School students.Initially, they can be quite a challenge to work with, but once they are engaged they are fully immersed in the topic! I like to be creative and interactive! I was a difficult High School student so I can relate to many that get bored with some topics. I really like to use transactional teaching methods. I introduce a subject and have discussions about the material rather than strictly lecturing.I like to learn what the student can teach me after assigned a reading. Have them go in the front of the room and explain a portion of the reading. It also helps them develop confidence in their public speaking.

I have worked in Mathematics Education for the past 25 years. I worked with elementary and middle school students for the first five years I taught. I then taught high school math for 1 year and have since taught adults at the University level. I spent 17 years at Heritage University and throughly enjoyed my adult students. I now teach for Yakima Valley College and enjoy these students too. I have two degrees, a BS in Math and a Master's in Math Education. I have tutored many students in math also. I also have a 4-12 teaching certificate in mathematics.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching experiences include college faculty member and home school teacher for my four children. They graduated from the Independent Study High School University of Nebraska, participated in Running Start and are all college graduates. I was also a 4-H leader for over twenty years and instructed many youth. As a community organizer, I developed public education and outreach programs. This involved teaching and mentoring people of all ages, pre-school through senior citizens. Currently, I am a school nurse for a middle school where I work to assess barriers to student learning.
