I like to observe children to determine what learning styles best fit their personalities and strengths. I believe in the capabilities of all children, when their teachers find the proper ways to motivate and support their learning. I find that building a trusting relationship in which students feel comfortable asking questions and thinking critically are best for making gains.
I have been a classroom teacher for the past four years in both elementary and middle school. Both of my parents are educators, so I spent a great deal of time tutoring and volunteering in schools prior to my teaching career. I enjoy working with students and watching their growth and development academically. My approach to each student is different because I understand each will need a different approach. Initially with each student I identify his or her strengths and weaknesses with the material. While building on their strengths, I attempt to change their perspective towards the course material that seems difficult. For example, if a student is struggling with multiplication but has superior addition skills, I will use addition to help them understand multiplication.
