I began tutoring groups of children at an inner city after school program in Language Arts and Reading Comprehension. As a special needs teacher, I have worked with many students who simply needed someone to show them a different way to learn the material. Learning can be made so much easier when taught in a format that is fun. This makes it enjoyable and more likely to be remembered. In a tutoring one-on-one kind of setting, times tables could be taught with a deck of cards and using the two numbers thrown out as the problem. Reading and writing can be done by taking pictures and creating a story from the pictures you have taken. It costs the price of a throw away camera and the students love it.
