For the past five years I have been a substitute teacher for MSAD 58. Grade levels I have experience with include K through 12. While I have subbed in all subjects, I really enjoy working with secondary level students in mathematics. A few years ago I filled in for a high school teacher for six weeks. I even got to plan lessons and grade work. I really enjoyed the time I spent with these students helping them pass their Algebra Competency exams. The school of Education in North Carolina prepared me well. I am above all flexible. My license reads K-8 and I have taught Art K-6 for a year, Second Grade for two years in NC. Then in 2001 I taught Title One reading in TN for a year then Fourth grade for three more years. My family moved to Northern VA and I taught Fifth grade there for two years before moving back to TN for a year where I taught 8th grade Algebra, and 7th grade English. My experience as a tutor during my school years has taught me that students have hard time on subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Calculus and Biology, not because they didn't have good instructors, but because students were not provided enough background information on various topics. I have always employed a fun-filled curious environment to my students which have helped them come up with more questions and instill passion on the subject matters. I provide enough background information on the subject matters first, give a big picture of the subject matters and then break things apart and teach them parts. This methodology has always been effective because students find it easier to learn all the necessary ingredients in order to grasp the big topic. I always make sure students are given enough practice questions on subjects like calculus, physics and chemistry.

For three years at Geneva College (2007-2010) I served as a math tutor, tutoring underprivileged, unmotivated, underachieving students at the local high school. Although I loved mentoring the young adults, unfortunately because of relocation back to Maine I was unable to continue the job. Finally for another 3 years I worked as a junior high and high school math tutor in high school. Once again I was unable to keep this due to relocation to college but I learned a lot and look forward to continuing my tutoring career. I love teaching and interacting with all students, although my preference is junior high and high school as I have helped out in these areas before.
