My "ace in the hole" in teaching is the fact that I care for students and they know it. I do make it well known that I am there to teach; not be their friend (or their parent!). I typically set the limits, introduce the lesson, focus on learning the content, and be attentive to individual needs. Assessment is done through answering and asking questions. I believe that every child has a right to learn. I believe that, no matter what kind of problem or learning disability that student has, that he/she deserves to learn. It is the responsibility, not only of the teacher, but the parents, grandparents, siblings and community to help children receive the best education that they can. I believe that all children learn differently. Some learn through doing; some through listening; others are a combination. I teach to each child in the way that best helps them to learn. While completing my masters in Special Education, I have learned creative ways to help children with special needs that I work with. I have designed and coordinated a Resource Center to help students with special needs learn and achieve at their level. I have also designed and implemented a school for children with special needs.

I recently graduated from Belhaven College in Jackson Mississippi with a degree in Elementary Education. I currently hold valid teaching lisenses in both Mississippi and Delaware for teaching students from Kindergarten to 6th grade. I have also taught a wide randge of subjects including: Reading, Basic Math, General Science, American History, Social Studies, Geography, Study Skills, Dance, Theatre, Mime, Sign-Language, Pilates, and Bible. I believe that all students want to learn and feel successful. I also believe that all students can learn so long as the materials are available to them in a form that is most compatible with their individual learning styles. My most important charge, along with helping those I tutor to "get" the materials, is to help them analyze their own styles of learning, identify what is successful for them and what is not, and help them create new strategies which might meet with more consistent success, both short and long term.
