I find that the interacting with art books and magazines is far more engaging for the students than slides. Using a variety of critiquing methods seems to keep the level of energy and interest high. I enjoy using a “silent” critique, where students write each other candid and anonymous messages. I try to give projects that encourage personal investigation.
