I started tutoring students middle and high school prior to graduating college. I have taught part-time college students at various institutions since 1996. I also have worked as an independent tutor part-time. I have more than 30 years of experience teaching as a one-on-one tutor and as a college instructor. I currently teach at Wake Tech Community College. I have taught at Strayer University, Campbell University, Mount Olive College, Durham Tech Community College, Central Carolina Community College and Vance-Granville Community College. A Little Bit About Me...

As a staff accountant for a large, global corporation (sales revenue approx. $250 million/yr) I have very much experience in all areas of finance and accounting. I specialize in journal entry writing and reconciliations. I reconcile both bank account statements and account balances with my master bank reconciliation having approximately $40 million debits and credits monthly.
I love teaching and showing people how easy accounting can be and how much it helps you in real life situations. Most students get overwhelmed easily with double entry accrual accounting. I find it best to relate the material directly to the students personal life purchase and income habits. This way they can have a hands on approach and hopefully find the rules easy and helpful in daily financial situations.

My teaching style is a mixture of direct instruction and discovery based learning whose components depend on the student(s) at hand. I've been known to make generalized lesson plans and improvise as I go, because every class is different, and too strict of a plan is destructive and boring for the students. Students typically need things explained to them in many different ways to garner a solid understanding of any topic, but especially upper level math and physics. I believe that any child can learn and that we all have various learning styles. We just have to find the style that is best for optimum learning. Some of us are visual learners and some are auditory learners, and many of us learn with a combination of styles. I believe that by working with students to finding their unique and individual learning style a tutor is the most effective.
I have always had an interest in English, writing, and Communications. I have tutored students in both English, reading, and writing. In my undergraduate program I earned a BA in English and spent time working as a writer and Sports Editor for my college newspaper, worked as an intern at a newspaper, and worked in Public Relations as Communications Manager for a nonprofit organization.
