Experience gained is not what truly counts it's ones desire to learn through experience that's seperates oneself. Through five years in college and five years in a special education classroom i have learned many things. What i take most from ten years of experience is a mindset to never-give-up. Most day's learning in the classroom are forgetable because the student does not retain information into their long term memory. Experience has taught me to strive for continual learning, not just learning but what needs to be learned. What needs to be learned, needs to not be forgot.
My teaching style is one centered around positive feelings. There is a word i learned in college by the name of rapport. In order to become successful in the classroom a positive working relationship must be established. No matter what you do in life a successful partnership must be centered around a comfortab ... read more

More About This Tutor...

In attending the University of Nevada, Reno, I was introduced to and involved with several programs working with youth. I was a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) working with children who were removed from their home for various reasons. (Parents were usually abusive). I also tutored Autistic children in the Early Childhood Autism program at UNR for almost two years. This program has offered me unique training and qualifications for tutoring youth, not just Autistic children. I minored in Criminal Justice, and took several additional English classes outside the necessary classes required for graduation, as I find English, among other various disciplines, to be quite a strength for me.
Not only working with children, but teaching them has always been a passion of mine. I have worked at the YMCA of the Sierra for almost 4 years, and tutoring children through UNR has been such a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that students learn best by doing. I am a very hands on teacher. I like when my students are out of their seats and making discoveries through experiments and exploration. I also am a firm believer in the multiple intelligences. I believe that when these intelligences are incorporated in to teaching, that each student then has an equal opportunity to learn.
My first degree was in Environmental Studies. After graduating, I took a position with a local non-profit where I taught recycling education to school aged children. I enjoyed teaching so much that it encouraged me to return to school to obtain my elementary education license. Since then I have taught both Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade. I am currently obtaining my Masters in Special Education. I have also been an after school tutor for a year for elementary aged children.

My initial experience was as a 2nd grade teacher in the Milwaukee Public Schools.(6years) I then moved to Ohio where I taught for 4 years as a Learning and Behavior Disordered teacher. I believe in the Democratic approach to Educating the young. I start the year by asking the students what they would like to learn that year and we record this on a large sheet of paper. Students feel happy to know their wishes are so considered and then at the end of the year we review the list and they see that they have cov ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been an elementary teacher for over 21 years in Wisconsin, Ohio, Arizona, and recently in Reno, Nevada. I hold a Masters Degree in Counseling from Kent State and acquired this in order to better serve the children in my classroom with their needs. I have taught all the subjects successfully and have also taught Music, Art, Dance, and Drama to the children in my classes. I have also worked as teacher to Learning Disabled children for four years.
I believe that our children hold the future of our world in their hands and hearts and for this reason I have a deep desire to assist them in learning all of their subjects as well as they can. My approach is democratic in that I ask the child for his/her input on what they like to study and learn too. Finding out a childs loves is important for a teacher. An example is: Going to the library to find books for st ... read more
