Very much based on working with what the student knows. I tend to start by having them explain to me what they are doing and what they think. I then provide some guidance and walk through a sample problem with them. I ask that they try another problem like it on their own and ask questions to prompt them as they work.
I started tutoring in high school for extra credit. I have primarily tutored in mathematics and general chemistry! I went to Eastern Illinois University for a degree in elementary education with a focus on middle school math and science. Math and Science have always come easy to me and I have done some tutoring previously in these areas. I worked at a school all through college running the after school program where one of my tasks was assisting the students with their homework. Along to way to obtaining my various degrees, my sentiment changed from achieving an accounting degree to achieving more knowledge in multiple areas. I pursued this avenue in order to expand my horizons as well as my marketability upon graduation.
