My comments on tutoring Geography : For three summers, I taught geography to gifted middle school students for Johns Hopkins.

This is my fourth year tutoring middle and high school students in History and Government. I also have professional classroom teaching experience and volunteer elementary school teaching experience. My students, primarily Global History, World History and European History students, have raised their class grades, passed the Regents exam by many points and earned high scores on the AP. I specialize in both content acquisition and essay writing skills. Some students have worked with me for half a year or more, others for a month or two before cumulative exams.

Teaching and School Counseling Services In One Place!

I have been a teacher for the last fifteen years. I teach social studies, but my specialization is teaching argumentative (college level) writing.I have done plenty of SAT prep and tutoring for students at the high school and college level. I am also a school counselor and can offer a vast array of services including FASFA, Naviance/Common Application and college/career counseling.
My style of education is to teach by modeling. Students need to see things in a step-by-step format with instructions, followed by an immediate example. I also provide sample argumentative essays for students who learn by seeing a complete model. My counseling style is to work with students, first by building a rapport and then using that as the foundation to get a feel for their college/career interests. I then look at their grades to help them build a custom transitional plan into early adulthood.

While I was there I was fortunate enough to work with a group of formerly incarcerated young women who were affiliated with the Center for Young Women’s Development. I created a writing workshop geared toward teaching these women to use their voices and to use writing as an outlet. I have cultivated strong writing and analytical skills in my college career at UConn. I took a variety of classes that requried me to articulate myself through research papers, poems, lab reports, and speeches. While at UConn I volunteered with a local congregation helping non English speaking individuals learn how to speak conversational English.
