I enjoy working with students who are elementary aged up through college aged. I particularly love working with middle school students. I am sensitive to student's individual needs and realize that everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way. When I tutor in mathematics, I try to help students develop conceptual understanding, not just procedural knowledge. I believe that all students are capable of understanding mathematics and am able to provide different methods of instruction based on the student's needs. I love to teach and see the light go on in a child's head as he or she begins to understand. It is a great joy to see them succeed. I am creative, compassionate, and caring, and will do everything I can to find the "missing pieces" for struggling students. Often, students have been rushed through the basic manipulative/hands-on discovery phase of learning, and have had to memorize rules in order to move on instead of truly understanding. I begin by observing the student, take them back step by step to where their struggles began, and start there. A Little Bit About Me...

During the completion of my BMA, I accepted a tutoring position and tutored all students (including disabled students) for two years. I eventually moved on to substituting for professors and even gained an assistant to the professor position, which included developing and teaching lesson plans. I have excellent communication skills with students and the ability to determine effective ways to help each student learn in their unique way. Although I have done mainly music tutoring, I am extremely confident in mathematics, sciences, and english.
