I have been a Boy Scoutmaster and merit bade counselor and have worked with youth for over 15 years. I have always been given very high marks as an instructor with many comments on my positive energy and help for students. I have an applied mathematics minor so I would be able to teach algebra, geometry, trig, and introductory calculus.
I am a question-answer type of teacher. I like to demonstrate, have them do, answer questions, clear up ambiguities, and then test or at least check to insure learning and understanding. My teaching style is catered to the student. However he/she learns best is the way I will strive to teach them. With no preference, however, I am a very visual educator, as that is how I best learn. I mainly teach with step by step examples, explaining each step's relevance along the way while relating concepts to real world application.
Throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies I have maintained an A average. I have been considered to be very intelligent, professional, and a great leader to my peers during my schooling as well. I believe it is very important for a tutor not to simply tell a student how to do things, but to show them and then through questions and developing a consistent road map make them come up with the answer themselves. There is a huge difference between pretending to know how to do something and actually knowing.
