Hearing Impaired is one of my top subjects! I've had lots of opportunities to learn about and train for interpreting for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

I've graduated from two interpreting training programs from two different colleges in two different states. ASL is a great passion of mine, as is the subject of psychology.I interact with people from the deaf community daily. I just finished interning through the Knoxville Center of the Deaf. A Little Bit About Me...

As a special eduation major, I was provided with various methods of teaching using adaptations and modifications to meet student's needs. I taught at the high school level for 3 years. As a requirement of the special education curriculum, I developed yearly attainable goals for each of my students with documented modifications for each area. I developed numerous activities and tasks for the students to perform in order to meet their goals for the year. The majority of my students were moderate to severely disabled, however, for the students whom I was able to teach subject areas to, I did so at the elementary level.

Working with different age groups, have shown me that every child is their own individual. I get to know the children I work with to understand the best approach to take with them. I can work in small groups, large groups, or individual. Some children are shy and may work better alone. It takes patience to teach and I am blessed to have that gift.

I have 7 years of teaching experience at the Florida School for the Deaf teaching struggling readers at the high school level. I received the teacher of the year recognition award during my second year of teaching due to my ability to motivate and encourage all my students to enjoy the love of reading. In the evening, I also coordinated the tutoring program for 2 years as well as tutored for 4 years.
I believe that all children can learn. It is just a matter of getting his/her lightbulb to go off.
