A Little Bit About Me...

As a special education teacher, I am required to possess patience. I feel I have a great deal of patience, as I taught students with moderate to severe disabilities. My teaching style was one in which I developed creative ways to achieve specific life goals. Age appropriate materials and activities were a must in my classroom and although a student may have been learning his/her colors, I would use functional things to teach them such as road signs, rather than the common elementary objects such as balls, counting bears, etc. I believe that all students are handicapped, some just more so than others. I was determined to be the first to attend and graduate from college out of a big family. I have learned different aspects of Psychology to apply to everyday life. In the last 10 years, I have been working with troubled teens to help them get their lives back on track. I have also done some tutoring in between.
Working with different age groups, have shown me that every child is their own individual. I get to know the children I work with to understand the best approach to take with them.
