Elementary! Reading Specialist! Homeschool! Master’s Degree!

I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from UNC-Wilmington. I taught first and second grades for ten years in the classroom. While teaching, I returned to school to receive my Master's Degree in Reading (k-12) and certification as a Reading Specialist. I worked as a Reading Teacher for five years, focusing on grades first through third. I also served as a K-2 Instructional Coach. I have enjoyed guiding children through the stages of reading, beginning with letter recognition and book and print awareness, to successfully completing End of Grade tests. My most recent experience has been helping teach a couple students being homeschooled! What an exciting experience! Unfortunately, the family is moving out of state. Our one on one learning experiences were extremely successful! I’d love to have the opportunity to participate in homeschool teaching again!

Let's learn and Have fun while doing it!

I am here for you. All I aim to do is ensure that your child understands the work they are doing, and teach them a much easier way to comprehend what they are attempting to learn. As a child it can be hard to relate to the work at hand, and as a teacher it can be very complicated to break down the learning material so that the child may understand the lesson. I am here to make learning fun and easy so that grades may improve and education is achieved.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is thinking a bit about sentences and what the students expects of them can help us to diagnose problems with style. The basics of style are very simple and can be distilled into one principle: a sentence, at its most basic level, is about actors and actions. As such, the subject of a sentence should point clearly to the actor, and the verb of the sentence should describe its important action.
I have some experiences with deaf and hearing impaired. I have Associate of Science with Early Childhood, Associate of Science with Special Need Education and Bachelor of Science Education minor Social Work. I did alot of volunteer with School Systems, Board of Education,Social Work, tutoring,Fayetteville State University, and Salvation Army.

My comments on tutoring Special Education : I am cerified in the state of North Carolina to teach learning disabled and mentally disabled students. I have a Master's degree in Special Education. I taught students with learning disabilities in the public school system. I am currently retired working with learning disabled adults.

I taught in the public school system for twenty-four and a half years. During that time I held various positions. I have taught self-contained behavior students and learning disabled resource classes. As a teacher, I provided individualized instruction in the areas of reading, writing, and math to students identified as exceptional. I also conducted and participated in parent meetings. I also performed duties such as, writing Individualized Education Plans, serving in the capacity of liaison between student and regular teacher, and serving on the school-based committee to determine the educational needs of students. As an Assessment Consultant, my duties were to facilitate the goals, objectives, and expectations associated with the NC Statewide Testing Program; Assist in the administration, scoring and disaggregation of school test data. Special Education is one of my top subjects! Was an ABA therapist.

I was a ABA therapist for a company around the Fort Campbell, Ky area for over a year. I worked with special needs children, emphasis on autism. I volunteered at a Fort Campbell school and also worked as a substitute teacher. I was TriCare approved at my last job. I am currently attending college to receive my Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. I have less than one year to graduate. I have been working with school systems on special education for about three years.
Hands-on and talk-through methods. I am open to other styles.

Although I graduated with a degree in Anthropology, it has always been my career goal to pursue teaching and education and to use my knowledge in Cultural Studies to progress my teaching success. My initial teaching experiences were in working with individuals with mental/developmental disabilities, teaching community behavioral and communication skills. I also have tutored students in the past in English and Social Studies. However, the bulk of my teaching has been in English as a Second Language. I had the opportunity to teach in South Korea for 3 years, where I worked with students of all ages in both private and public schools. Here in the US, I have taught recent immigrants English communication skills in New York City and in Miami Beach, working with University study abroad students and professionals looking to gain English communication skills and obtain various certification ... read more

As a young child I was diagnosed with dyslexia. I have worked hard to to get my degree and have overcome many challenges. I know that it is possible for all the achieve their goals if they are given the opportunity to be taught in ways which they best learn. I personally had to discover my own learning style. Now I work to help others reach their potential by helping them discover their learning style. As a tutor I can only explain my own style is that of my students. I will work hard to adapt my own ways to benefit those who I am privileged to teach.

I attended Kean University in Union, New Jersey. From this institution I graduated in January 2009 with honors and a Bachelor's Degree in special education. During my time at the university, my studies focused on teaching as well as providing various types of support for students with learning, behavior, and emotional disabilities. Since graduation, I have taught math and language arts to 6th and 8th grade students. I have also spent time working in the field of early childhoos development by running a general education pre-kindergarten classroom.
I believe that all children are capable of learning in their own way. After having studied and working in the field of special education, I have developed a strong mind set that presentation of material by the instructor determines the outcome of the students learning process. I have found subject integration as well as scaffolding te ... read more

While working at Excel Personal Development, I had the opportunity to mentor students ranging from elementary school to Middle School. I'm passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. Age isn't a factor in this pursuit, for no matter what age we can still have an impact. Building trust and rapport with students is vital. Being positive and uplifting is critical to the learning of students that are discouraged and have met with way too much negativity in their usual learning environments. Teaching/tutoring lower level reading and writing skills is what I have excelled in the most but am able to help students at higher levels. These levels are not age specific. Having taken an online adult student from very low level subtraction skills all the way through multiple digit multiplying/dividing with decimals is one of my proudest accomplishments.
With both my Bachelors and Masters Degrees being in the field of teaching children with special needs there are many students that could benefit from ... read more

As a Fayetteville State University undergraduate, I did a lot of volunteer work with high school student. I also worked in the school's computer lab assisting students with classwork and homework. I have tutored students for the SATs. My specific field is English but I can also tutor in Spanish. I have an extensive amount of knowledge in grammar and composition as well as anything in the literature field.
My passion since I was 5 years old has always been teaching. I used to play teacher with my sisters and give themm stickers for job well done. I feel students will respect you and appreciate you if you relate to them. Not necessarily reduce yourself to their level but treat them like young adults. There have been many teachers throughout my career as a student that have greatly motivated me to succeed and I genuinely want to do the same for others.
