Since Mich of humanity's understanding is based on metaphor, description and its subtleties is a key part of any writing process, be it creative or instructional.My favorite form of writing is creative, however I also enjoy writing essays and other pieces based on fact. My teaching style is easy to describe; I consider myself a 'coach' and as such I don't (and wont) give the students the answer to a particular problem, but rather I show them how to (and hold their hand, metaphorically, while they struggle to) find the answers themselves based on first principles, in my experience the only way to get them to really learn. Learning physics is particularly difficult for most students because they have been trained to memorize, not reason things out logically. They usually require a LOT of coaching in order to begin to think, which ultimately is the goal of all physics class.

I enjoy working with students of all ages, although most of my experience has been with middle school age and older. I use a couple of different techniques to help students understand math, including using visual aides, problem solving techniques, role reversal (where they explain a lesson to me), blackboard/whiteboard work, and games.
