A Little Bit About Me...

I've tutored two kids in my neighborhood for 40 buck every two weeks. It was a marvelous experience because they were very respectful young boys...majority of the time. It was kind of hard for them to keep their focus so i drew a plan which was rewarding them with candy and toys, and of course since it was my idea I didn't charge extra. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to tutor them anymore because had to move with my mother. All in all, no matter the task I will always try my best to achieve!!!

I like to take a 'backdoor' approach with my students by creating activities that are interesting and fun. I think this helps in changing the student's attitude from a negative to a positive one. I do believe everyone can learn and that it is my job to help facilitate this. I like to vary my teaching style while using interactive, kinetic, audial, visual and explorer type methods. This helps me find what works for individual students. I'm energetic but patient and positive. I think it is important to encourage a student's effort not just his/her outcome.

I enjoy teaching and the think that every child has the ability to learn anything they want. Through my personal experience, I realize that some people have a harder time learning particular subjects than others. Being someone who has been tutored earlier in grade school, I know what kind of dedication it takes and how great the moment of success can be. I teach using a lot of paper and using many examples. I do not have a particular teaching style because I don't believe that a single method works for everyone. Therefore, I operate from an Occam's Razor perspective -- whatever is the simplest solution is the best. I believe I am very empathetic and perceptive, which would enable me to determine what works best for each student.
Admittedly, I have no direct (structured) teaching experience. However, I have nearly five years of experience in the journalism field, and during that time I've mentored a number of fledgling college and high school journalists.
