Latin Tutoring

The ordinary student can no longer count on being able to take Latin, but there are, however, extracurricular means. The College Board examinations, which serve as an educational tool for the admission of students into colleges, still features one Latin examination on a voluntary basis: Advanced Placement Latin: Vergil. Select a tutor today. Latin is still used in the process of new word production in modern languages of many different families, including English. Latin and its daughter Romance languages are the only surviving branch of the Italic language family. Other branches, known as Italic languages, are attested in documents surviving from early Italy, but were assimilated during the Roman Republic. The one possible exception is the language of the Veneti, who may have spoken Venetic in conjunction with Latin in early Roman times. Need HELP? Select a tutor now. MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY Let me start by saying that in my family we have a lot of teachers, so it runs in my blood?. I teach Economics and Business classes. I have been teaching for the past 13 years so I have plenty of experience. I meet 40 new students a month. I taught for several universities online and on campus. Economics, my favorite course to teach is viewed by many as boring; there are right and wrong ways to approach questions, and finite answers to many questions. Of course, it is far more than that as economics should be viewed as a complex language with many shades of gray that necessitate complex judgment calls. I try to get beyond the procedures. My approach: A positive atmosphere. Students are called upon to discuss questions, but mistakes are treated as opportunities to explore misconceptions, not as a reflection of a student's abilities. A window on the world. ... read more

My teaching style involves a lot of examples and having the student answer the questions on the board. I am able to come up with examples off the top of my head and have the student work through the problem to prevent "dumb" mistakes (such as forgetting a minus sign). I am very patient and allow my students as much time as possible and encourage them to ask whenever they are stuck. I try to show that math can be fun and interesting and that there are applications out in the real world. I began tutoring math for Stetson University which ranged from Algebra 1 to Calculus 2. I then began tutoring privately and I have tutored lower level math and advanced statistics. I have tutored a student who was failing calculus in class but then they earned the highest possible grade on the standardized test. I also have a degree in mathematics.

As a current graduate student I've learned to not only be a student but also a teacher, in assisting my peers and family in subjects beyond their understanding. I've earned my bachelors in science in Chemistry, and I am currently working on my Masters Degree In Aeronautical Science with A focus in Air traffic Management and operations. I feel like the best way to teach a subject is to break it down to the basics and build your way up, I feel you cant have a full understanding of something if you cant teach it yourself. Im a positive motivator and I believe that with enough patience and repetition any student will be able to understand anything.

I was the valedictorian of my graduating high school class and one of the top high school math and science students in the nation, but I was not always a stellar student. For instance, I received a “D” in math in the second grade. I attribute my transformation to an "A" student at least partially to my third grade teacher in whose class my math grades improved dramatically and I jumped from the lowest to the highest reading group. She helped boost my confidence, made me feel like I could actually do better, and made me excited about learning. My tutoring reflects my strong belief that achieving some or all of the latter can positively impact students' long-term learning. I am just as comfortable tutoring students in math and science as in reading and writing. As a secondary school student, I received a number of top science honors, such as first place honors in several state science fair

The joy of teaching has permeated my professional career, whether as Director of Education at three churches, the editor of a curriculum line, a substitute teacher filling in at the last minute, a well-traveled seminar/workshop leader, a freelance writer of curriculum and classroom tools; the volunteer facilitator of an ongoing weekly class, or most recently, as an educator at a small academy, teaching Creative Writing, Journalism and Latin in an impoverished area of Orlando. I have enjoyed investing my teaching gifts in students ranging from preschool to those in assisted living facilities. My enthusiasm for learning has taken me from English labs in Caracas, Venezuela, to Upward Bound Camps in rural Virginia. It has been my experience that every child can learn when taught with enthusiasm, care, and creativity. I attempt to lead students in discovering for themselves, as opposed to del

I have always had an inclination to teach. To me, there is something very exciting about conveying understanding of a concept to another person. I think I have a particular ability for identifying precisely what aspect of a problem a student does not understand and then elucidating that point. I think much instructional time is spent inefficiently in explaining what a student already understands and not explaining what he or she does not understand. This is why I believe engaging the student in a conversation is vital, helping them identify their difficulties so that I can address them specifically. I have always been an avid reader and writer, as well as a natural teacher. As early as middle school, I was tutoring my fellow classmates at the request of their parents. I studied Latin for five years, which provided an exceptional foundation for the study of English, which I pursued as my

I am currently enrolled in the graduate engineering program at the University of Florida, in which I plan to graduate in the spring of 2012. I enjoy working with people and I have a strong background in numerical analysis. I have taken the GRE, ACT, and the SAT. Scores were high above the national average for math and at about the average for the written portion. I do have experience in writing research papers and laboratory reports, all in the field of civil engineering. I love seeing people understand something once I explain it to them in a way that they can understand it. I also love working with kids and teenagers because I believe that if we have a positive influence on young people they will grow up to be the leaders that our nation needs. My teaching style is geared at making people think. Students don't learn when they are spoon fed their education but when they are lead in the
