A Little Bit About Me...

My motivation for applying to Advanced Learners is two-fold: primarily, teaching is something that I am passionate about and is our “family business” so to speak, my parents have a combined fifty plus years in education, it is through this noble cause that they have chosen to give back to the community. Every student also can learn differently, whether it be by incorporating more or less visual learning strategies, auditory learning strategies, or using more of the "hands on" approach. I like working with grade-school students, but I like best a variety of teaching situations. That for me truly represents the challange of teaching. Only a diversity of students can bring learning to itself, reveal the demands of cognition for what they are. As a philosophy PhD this interests me very much.
I have been teaching for 25 years. I began as a high-school teacher, taught grade school and special education, and then spent 20 years as a university professor of English and philosophy. I started tutoring as a graduate student and have been doing it on and off now for 20 years.
