I enjoy teaching math because its something you use in every day life. When it comes to math, I am easy going and patient because I know how stressful math can be if you are struggling with it. I love having the skill to be able to teach another person that skill. In the past, I have used analogies to help students to understand. I think educators must take into account the different ways in which students learn. For instance, I've noticed that math students may have difficulty adding and subtracting fractions, but have no trouble whatsoever when I ask about dimes and quarters. If an instructor can build a bridge between new material and material the student has already mastered, the student's retention can significantly improve. By getting to know the interests and knowledge of each, I hope to discover bridges that will make learning an exciting and enjoyable process.
