German is one of my top subjects!

My relationship with the German language started while I was in diapers and has only grown since. Evidence? My first word was "Licht" (light), I first called airplanes "Flieger" (small airplane) and I used to wag my pointer finger and warn those approaching the end of our driveway, "No, no Strasse!" (no, no street!). I was raised in the U.S. and spoke primarily English at home, but I've been exposed to German my entire life. My curiosity of the language kicked in early, motivating me to study German from sixth grade through college, obtain a degree in German and spend a year living in Germany on a government-sponsored fellowship. I love teaching German!

I am German (native speaker) and I've been working as a German teacher for five years now. I worked at language schools as well as at Middle and High schools in Italy (German as a foreign language). I lived in Germany until the age of 37 and worked as a journalist for the national televesion channel (ARD) for ten years. Then I moved to Italy and started working as a German teacher. In the classroom I rely on traditional lecture, supplemented by Powerpoint presentations, animations, and lists and diagrams on the white board. I usually assign a research paper. In the last few semesters I've implemented through Blackboard some online testing, as well as tutorial "homework" quizzes, where the students get feedback directing them to coverage of particular sections of the text.
