A Little Bit About Me...

Living with a disability has posed more challenges in my education than the average person, yet I have faced these challenges and overcome them. I earned my bachelor degree in social welfare in three years and I recently obtained my graduate degree in criminology, law, & society - both from the University of California. During my undergraduate studies I obtained a tutoring certificate and studied abroad. Ever since my graduate studies I have contributed to the community by volunteering at a local rape crisis agency and I have also learned Italian, Portuguese, and I am continually perfecting my Spanish.
I like to see children succeed, especially if I contribute to that progress. Teaching has been personal to me as I have regularly helped my nephew many times with his homework when he was younger. My goal is for students to reach success - whether it is to help students understa ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I tend to teach by leading participants on a somewhat self-inspired inquiry or pursuit. By providing sufficient material and probing questions, students ready, willing, and able to learn can take us - teacher and student - on surprisingly rewarding journeys. The "brass ring" is there for both.
I'm passionate about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. With my degree in geology and experiences in technology and computer arenas, I'm capable of guiding inquiry on such subjects. In addition to traditional teaching, mentoring, and volunteering from grade school computer labs to adult geology field trips, I've also coached teams such as Odyssey of the Mind (at all levels 3rd through 11th grade). My career has also taken me through technical writing, finance, and project management experiences from which many practical skills have emerged.

I enjoy immensely working with beginning readers. It is so thrilling to me to see the light bulb go off in a child when they grasp a math concept or advance in their reading! I am very patient and really enjoy making it fun and attractive to learn. One of my big gifts is encouragement. I believe in a structured, organized setting for teaching. I believe it is important to be organized and have supplies and curriculum/exercises ready for the students so that there is no time wasted in their learning.

It is important to show students good work habits and a sense of fulfillment when they complete the tasks assigned to them by their teachers. It gives them confidence to go beyond their expectations.

A Little Bit About Me...

I use a teaching paradigm that stresses the importance of student's needs and learning styles. Every student brings unique skills and perspectives to the classroom and tutor session, and because of this I have found that my teaching strategy changes per student and per teaching situation. For some students, being taught using the socratic method works well, while others like to take notes, absorb the material, then ask questions later during office hours. I have found that understanding student's learning methods have helped me to become a better teacher.
As a student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo I was interested in English education, especially in terms of helping students improving their reading and writing skills. I followed this interest by tutoring at the university writing lab, as well as doing frequent one-on-one tutor sessions with students in need. At the end of each quarte ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I double majored in Biology and English with a Bachelor of Science degree from a very well known, highly esteemed University in Wisconsin. I went to Taiwan for two months from March-May 2010 and helped teach in a "Bushiban" or cram school to kids aged 6-15. I am currently looking for a full-time job relating to my degree.
Conversational. From what I learned in Taiwan little kids are not for me. This is the truth. Kids at about 14 or 15 and older are much preferred. I don't think I am animated enough for younger children...well, not a GROUP of younger children anyway. When it comes to one on one though, it is much different I am sure. I like to give ideas on how to sound out words, remember grammar/math tricks and things like that.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with an AA Degree in Liberal Studies from Allan Hancock Community College. Upon graduation, I began working as a Substitute Teacher for grades K-8 in Santa Maria, CA. During this time, I was responsible for teaching many subjects including English, math, music, history and physical education. I also conducted many small group tutoring sessions.
I have taught and tutored hundreds of children while substitute teaching. I have found that my style is one which tries to involve the student in the learning process as much as possible. I love using volunteers to read aloud and participate in the learning process. I feel that treating each child with respect and as individuals increases their own abilities and improves their self-confidence as ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara two years ago with two degrees in Spanish Literature and Women’s Studies I graduated with honors from both subjects of study. Through these two different programs I have learned language, reading, writing, grammatical skills due to the extensive reading and writing I did. I will say that my strongest skills are Spanish language, reading and writing. I am currently tutoring students to improve their reading skills in a High School setting.
I learned at a young age that everyone is different when it comes to learning. My goal as a teacher is to learn the student’s needs and apply a curriculum that will help the student reach their potential. I have great communication skills and I love to communicate with my students I ask them question to get to know them. I am very responsible, and understanding.

Teaching is one of passions as I am always interested in learning. I feel that the quality of the knowledge obtained rests without doubt in the ambitions the student possesses challenging the teacher to present his best. I have taught and cared after juveniles up to 14 years old, girls, boys, chalenged and all. Planning, daycare and one on one instruction were all on the agenda which helped sharpen my teaching skills
As ambitious a student in the classroom as in life I have completed over 180 college credits at age 24. With a preference in sciences most of these credits were completed however my interest expands far beyond the realm into most every subject. Proof of this is shown by the length of my undergraduate work, six years with enlightening pauses in between to broaden my mind through travel. Biology is my strong suit however math such as physics, calculus and even chemistry ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am well-traveled internationally, and have nearly 30 years experience teaching and implementing management level development programs. I am comfortable presenting to groups of all sizes, and enjoy every opportunity to collaborate on programs that will enhance community life. My interests center on the human creative process and the expression and expansion of creative intelligence. In recent years my attention has turned to world peace and proven technologies to promote the same. A Little Bit About Me...

In over five years of teaching and tutoring I have found that many students need to achieve some type of success with school. Many students have gotten behind or had bad experiences in school and if a teacher can give them some form of success in school they often turn a corner and begin to improve in their studies. With continued positive reinforcement and encouragement many students will become more diligent in their studies. I have also found that many students need basic student skills--how to study, how to prepare for a test, and basic strategies for taking tests. In Shanghai I specialized in those students who had gotten behind.
I just returned to the US from Shanghai where I worked as a teacher of Science, Social Studies, English and Literature. I have extensive experience as a teacher and tutor. I am very good with students and have over 5 years experience teaching and tuto ... read more
