My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. Some are visual learners, others are audio learners, and still others are a combination. I work well one-on-one but also enjoy small groups. I am passionate when it comes to teaching. I conduct my lessons with the understanding that every child is an individual. Therefore, they each have their own learning pace and preferences. The first tutoring session, I set aside, to learn more about the child and to conduct an assessment which will help me in determining that child's learning patterns. In addition, I believe in meeting with the parents weekly to discuss their child's progress and to offer advice on how they can help aid their child in their academic success. I am experienced in teaching. I have worked within the public school systems as a substitute teacher and as a permanent employee. In addition, I have taught GED classes to adults; and tutored elementary and high school students. I am nearly completed with my Master of Science degree, and I have an earned Bachelor of Science degree from Bellevue University.

I absolutely love working with children! I am currently a "Big Sister" in the Youngstown/Mahoning Valley Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.
