I understand that math can sometimes be a very ambiguous subject for many people. For instance, a lot of times it just looks like things can magically happen without a very good underlying explanation, and to overcome that I try to really break things down and pull things apart, sometimes with real life examples, physical examples and even just showing the student exactly where the "magic" part is coming from. I believe in a pretty simple rule; repeat, repeat, repeat. Learning math and physics through example is the best way. Repeating these examples is a sure way to success. They student may not like math or physics, but once they start to do well in it they'll come to love it.
During my studies at SUNY Buffalo I tutored in Regents Math which I also took when I was in high school. In Virginia Tech I was a Graduate Research Assistant.
