I believe in individual learning styles and matching the teaching technique to the learning style. We all have strengths and weaknesses. It is important to learn how to capitalize on the strengths and build up the weakness.
I have been teaching for over 17 years. Being very versatile, I have taught English, Ancient History, Medieval History, Computers, Art, and preschool. I started out teaching preschool and loved it. Then I went to a private Christian school (teaching completely for volunteer pay). From there, I decided that I love to help people learn. I went back to school. Students still will recognize me and I know that I made a difference in their life. It is a great reward to know that at that point in their life, I was supposed to be there.

I tend to teach by leading participants on a somewhat self-inspired inquiry or pursuit. By providing sufficient material and probing questions, students ready, willing, and able to learn can take us - teacher and student - on surprisingly rewarding journeys. The "brass ring" is there for both.
I'm passionate about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. With my degree in geology and experiences in technology and computer arenas, I'm capable of guiding inquiry on such subjects. My teaching style can best be described through the overall goals of the school I am currently working at: fostering self-esteem through respecting each child's diverse nature; cooperation and communication, students are active participates; global awareness, respecting diversity in all its forms; conflict resolution; encouraging and respecting imagination. Student's works are evaluated on individual bases; student's success is measured by their individual achievements, not based on the success of their peers. My teaching style is hands on. I give hints and partial answers in an effort to encourage students to think through problems and attempt to solve them. If necessary, I separate an idea into simpler terms, and help students learn each term before continuing. I give examples which illustrate a point or demonstrate a procedure. At times, my students write short essays, which I critique for sentence structure, word choice, tense matching, and organization. When a student is reading aloud, I follow along, interjecting if necessary with the correct pronunciation or the proper syllable emphasis.

My style of teaching is to first get the student to understand the basics that are needed as a foundation. For example, my friend was having trouble completing accounting homework and I soon realized that it was because he had not memorized the basic equations; i.e., "assets - liabilities = owner's equity," and "beginning inventory + purchases - ending inventory = cost of goods sold." Just about impossible to advance without the basics.
At Hartnell College I tutured math and economics. Recently I tutored a co-worker who was taking a college Accounting class and he appreciated it and said that I was very helpful.
