Then I went to a private Christian school (teaching completely for volunteer pay). From there, I decided that I love to help people learn. I went back to school. I believe there are multiple learning styles. One of my goals as a teacher is to find each students' learning style and teach to fit their needs. I believe that practice makes perfect but also that learning needs to be fun. I set the bar high for my students and do my best to help motivate them to reach a high standard.
In college I was a nanny to three middle school students for two years. While being their nanny I was also their tutor in all subjects but focused on math. I graduated from SJSU with a major in History and a minor in Mathematics. I substitute taught in January and February 2007 then was a long-term substitute from March until the end of May in a sixth grade math, science, and history combination class. My style of teaching is to first get the student to understand the basics that are needed as a foundation. For example, my friend was having trouble completing accounting homework and I soon realized that it was because he had not memorized the basic equations; i.e., "assets - liabilities = owner's equity," and "beginning inventory + purchases - ending inventory = cost of goods sold."
