Tutor for Several Elementary & College Courses

Extensive experience as both a college adjunct (at 6 different universities) as well as a tutor for various courses, with particular skill assisting students in overcoming exam-related stress and learning blocks. My experience includes teaching children (8 years old and above), as well as diverse college students, including student-athletes, and those with a learning disability/hearing disability. I hold three graduates degrees--it's fair to say that I am a life-long learner, which I try to instill in others.
Depending on the course and student, I vary my teaching style from the Socratic Method (with a lot of questions and answers between the student and me), as well as utilizing real world examples to reinforce concepts. Finally, I strive to move from the basics of a concept, to intermediate types of problems, and build to advanced level. By doing so, I focus on the student's ... read more

I have learned to adjust my tutoring skills specifically for the student based on their learning style; allowing the student to get much more out of the experience. The fact that I've worked with various levels has allowed me to experience a good number of behaviors, attention spans, interests, drives, and has allowed me to see the difference in subjects, how they must be illustrated as well as the way students tend to respond. From this, I have been able to curtail my style in correspondence to each tutee.
Since high school I have been involved with tutoring. Although on a voluntary basis I tutored Algebra 2 and BIology in high school. I take a look at what the existing instruction materials are attempting to convey and I add to that or expound on that. I use Google extensively to look for similar examples to the problems the student might be having. I believe that it is best to solve any given problem in at least two different ways if you really want to get some insight. It also helps in either verifying your answer or checking if you are in the ballpark.
I have an undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering. I have a Masters in Systems Engineering. I have tutored one person in statistics, algebra, analytical geometry and elementary functions for one year. She has maintained an “A” average during that time.

Due to my extensive experience in tutoring students of all ages, I am very good at tailoring my teaching toward the specific student's needs. I am very patient, communicate concepts in an easy to understand manner, and work hard to help the student understand the material. While tutoring math & physics, I generally explain the material first, and then work through a few example problems with the student. I then have the student solve a few problems on their own. I try to make sure that the student understands the material by asking them questions to engage them in the learning process. I am very supportive and know that a little encouragement can go a long way.
I have been tutoring since high school & I absolutely love it. In 12th grade, I tutored fellow students grades 9-12 at my high school's tutorial center in various math, science, & spanish classes. Every Sunday, I taught my n ... read more

I homeschool my children in math, art and science. They ask question about a subject and I give them answers to their questions. If I do not know the answer, I then teach them how to look up the answer or work it out from fundamental assumptions. By having them approach me their interest level is peaked and them retain the information. I learned in graduate school how to learn which I then pass along to my students.
I taught advance instrument design at Stanford University using laser detection technology. The two semsters involved handles on generation of working prototypes. During my time as an graduate student, I tutored undergraduate classes in organic and math while I was a Teachers Assistant for the General Chemistry classes. I ran and graded three lab classes as part of my duties.

In 2009, I graduated from San Jose State University with a BA in German and a minor in linguistics. Long before receiving my bachelor's degree, I instructed classes for foreign learners and tutored individual students of English. Over the years, I have also had the opportunity to gather experience in the areas of translation, proof-reading, and interpretation.
It is important for students to become familiar and feel comfortable with the material they are working with. I challenge students to step back and view things from different angles. In working together with them to find solutions and obtain good results from their efforts, their confidence grows and they better learn how to achieve their goals on their own.

I believe that each student should learn to be in charge of their own education. My goal is to help them achieve that goal. I am not quick to jump in with the answer but can wait patiently for them to work through the problem. Since I learned by a very different method than my teachers tried to teach, I look for a students learning style. If he is not getting the concept, I'll try another or even invent one on the spot. It is such a joy to see the light come on in a student's eyes.
I love working with students. One on one is even better than teaching groups of thirty in my book. I also worked ten years as a Physical Chemist where I had to know Math and Physics as much as Chemistry. I have taught Math, Physics, Biology in addition to Chemistry, and tutored in all these areas. I also graded essays for the state of Georgia and so I could sharpen any students essay skills. I ... read more

I am a recent graduate from Santa Clara University with a double degree in Economics and Finance. I worked for three years at Stanford University with the Foundation for Education (F4ED) tutoring advanced elementary students in applied mathematical concepts. I am currently working as a research analyst for the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (A.N.D.E.) as well as co-writing a paper on applied financial concepts with a professor from Santa Clara University.
I enjoy teaching students of all ages. I believe the best way for students to learn is by asking questions. I encourage students to think outside the box and ask as many questions during each session. In addition I feel that students learn best when they are able to apply a recently learned concept to a more challenging or different problem. I believe that every student can surpass expectations and reach their fu ... read more

I've aided ESL students, native Japanese students, K-12 students, as well as college students. Even when I tutor groups, I mold my questions and instructions to each student to try and tailor instruction to his or her personal learning style. I offer a broad background of teaching experience and a strong understanding of science and mathematics. I try to maintain a fun environment, encouraging student participation while ensuring that the main concepts our understood. As a tutor I try to complement the instructions of the teacher by offering a broader understanding of the topic or new methods to approach the same answers. Tutoring and helping others has always been a big part of who I am, and recently I have not been able to fulfil that part of my life.
