My comments on tutoring Anatomy : Human cadaver classes are spooky, but extremely helpful! I apply my experience from those to my philosophy of "know thy self" and "form and function" to make Anatomy relevant and memorable to my students. The side-effect is an A!

I have been teaching/tutoring students in life science for over 20 years, but it all started with my BA from UC Berkeley in Integrative Biology. All most every student I have tutored had the hidden, raw talent to succeed in school, but either lacked the desire or the vision to do so. I want students to see problems and concepts like how I do. I am patient yet firm. My personal background in mathematics was fairly rigorous, so I always make my students show their work. As the subject material gets tougher, it becomes more critical to be able to check all stages of one's work. One of my math teachers gave me some sage advice: "Math teachers are lazy. We find the quickest and shortest route to a solution." I've taken this tongue-in-cheek wisdom to heart in my own way. While there is only one single solution for any math problem, there are infinitely elegant ways to arrive at that solution.
