My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : Many of my students struggle with this learning issue, but can overcome and learn how to navigate with it!

I assess the student's level of mastery by listening to parents, communicating with the student (in whatever appropriate way needed) and then doing some basic testing. Once the student is assessed, I design a learning environment and activities that coincide with the student's specific strengths, while adding some elements of challenge. I tend to work in a very focused way for 10-15 minutes, and then add in tactile activities (like Bannana Grams for example) for 10 minutes or so, in order to maintain the student's attention. Children and youth who are struggling to read and write get patient assistance to learn the words correctly. My work will improve writing techniques (including essays and basic writing skills), reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and literary creativity. ADD/ADHD is one of my top subjects!

Many of my previous jobs have surrounded helping others. Whether that was through tutoring and teaching or customer service. Growing up I also tutored my younger sister and my cousin who has a learning disability. I have always been passionate about helping others, especially through education. A Little Bit About Me...

My doctoral dissertation examined college-level remedial reading and writing students in an effort to determine if adding online instruction to traditional instruction would improve student performance. My dissertation explored five hypotheses, and I found statistical significance in all five; thereby supporting the notion that adding online instruction to traditional instruction can improve student learning. While I was a doctoral student, I was also a Merit Scholar. In addition to my teaching, I have also tutored elementary, high school, and college students in reading, writing, and the understanding of Literature. I have been a substitute teacher for about 10 years specializing in math & physics. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering plus 20+ years of maintenance/engineering experience. I incorporate practical examples in teaching to give students in depth knowledge in a practical sense. I gather my examples from my varied career experiences from the Military, Aircraft, Engineering, Manufacturing/Maintenance & Computer fields. I sporadically tutors students in my specialty.
