Since November 2009, I’ve been teaching general biology at Logan-Hocking High School in Logan, Ohio. I have developed lesson plans, managed classroom learning, doing all the things any other science teacher would. In the summer of 2009, I worked in Albany, New York for the Albany Pine Bush Preserve conducting surveys in the preserve for the endangered Karner Blue Butterfly. All the assigned tasks required knowledge of general biology, especially in plant natural history. I graduated in May 2009 from Muskingum University where I obtained a B.S. in biology. I graduated with a degree in Physical Science Education, which gives me a strong background in Physical Sciences and in math. I have worked with children and youth of all age levels and nearly every ability. I ran an afterschool program for the Salvation Army, ran a boys home for troubled boys and worked in St. Paul City schools as a substitute teacher and a night teacher at an evening school. I enjoy teaching adults as well as high school students. I do not have much training teaching below junior high; however, I am confident that I could successfully teach math or language. Although, I don't mind the traditional classroom setting, I am quite used to instructing on a one-to-one basis. Our GED programs are completely individualized for learners to move at their own pace, and I encourage this type of teaching style when manageable. Many of the students/adults that I have worked with have a learning disability of some sort, but I feel that I learn from each student just as much as they are learning from me.
