More About This Tutor...

I have been tutoring since I was in high school. Between that and teaching Sunday School and Children's Church, I have more than ten years of experience. I have tutored children whose ages range from elementary school to high school. I have also tutored adults to help with college classes and help prepare for GED tests. I teach the Bible to children whose ages range from newborn to eight years.
This depends on the student and his or her individual needs. I like to find creative ways to make learning more fun for the individual so that he or she will feel more motivated to learn.

My comments on tutoring Geography : Very familiar with world, national, and state geography.

My teaching style is very hands on, and student focused. I like to connect with whoever I teach on a personal level so that they can feel comfortable with me as a tutor and with themselves while learning how to approach old problems in new ways.
My experiences come from a mix of studies and real life application. I have studied various forms of writing, from professional, creative, and argumentative; these include gather sources and properly citing them in both MLA and APA formats. My personal applications of these writing materials have been for personal use in working on short stories and poems. I have an extensive history with drawing, mainly through personal sketches (both cartooning and realism). While in college, I have also studied several techniques that have greatly improved my drawing practices in the form of realistic drawing.

I have worked as an elementary education teacher for 24 years. I attended East Carolina University and have completed 24 hours of graduate-level work towards a masters degree. I graduated magna cum laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa as well as the education honor society. I have worked at a local tutoring center as well as having done private tutoring. While serving as a child-care center director, I wrote and helped to implement a curriculum for children ages 3-8.
As a teacher, I care about students. I believe that positive encouragement is the way to motivate. I worked as a private/public school teacher to provide each student that I worked with the academic/social support that was needed. I used my background in child development to motivate students to work to their potential. I have worked with students from a variety of ethnic/social backgrounds who had a wide range ... read more

I love learning math and science and I enjoy sharing the same love of learning with my students. I like seeing the look on their face when they really get it! Students requiring tutoring are sometimes in academic distress and have anxiety therefore I have a more easy going and patient style of tutoring than most. I believe I'm an effective tutor because I remember the exact same difficulties and questions I had as a student and can relate to their frustration. Most people as well as myself are visual learners thus I teach by working several examples and gradually increasing the difficulty at a pace set by the student. I would rather spend a whole tutoring session working a few examples the student completely understands as opposed to several problems with no understanding. The goal is to slowly establish a pattern of success with simpler work then before the student realizes it they're o ... read more

I enjoy teaching and working with children and adults. My first experience in education was with children's music classes, and have since enjoyed the opportunity to teach adults at the community college level. I would describe my style as adaptive. In my experience every child and adult requires somewhat of a different approach. After careful evaluation, a course is developed to meet the students needs. With that said, no matter what approach is taken, above all else I know that practice and a solid understanding of the subject's terms is the first key to successful learning.
For over four years, I have been involved in private tutoring as well as teaching classes available to the public. I have a passion for teaching and enjoy helping others succeed. While completing my Bachelors in Business Administration, I developed a firm understanding and passion for economics, finan ... read more

The best way to describe my teaching style is to find a creative way to remember material. For example, I have a child that had to memorize his prepositions. We made up a song that included them all, in order. It turned out to something like this....ABOARD a ship AS we were traveling ABOUT eight knots, etc. This style was very effective for memorizing. For subjects that require more understanding than memorizing, I prefer my "teach and try" method. This means that I go through multiple problems with a student explaining the steps involved. Then, I set-up a mock test to test their abilities solo. I therefore can grasp their understanding and pinpoint their weaknesses.
I have recently graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS in Biological Sciences with a minor in Genetics. During college, I taught/tutored 7th graders at a local middle school in the areas of math and s ... read more

I began tutoring formally in high school for sibling's friends who needed assistance in all subjects. When the opportunity arose to help my alma mater, I took the change to teach debate, public speaking, political science, and advise college level students. I've tutored students in English as I was former major in college as well as nearly every social science subject you can think of. I've also taught multiple sections of study skills courses.
Both of my parents were teachers so it is in my blood. I am a firm believer in finding the right way to convey information to anyone, especially your student. My goal was always to confer the desire to learn no matter the subject. I remember the teachers who were passionate for their subjects and seek to emulate their expertise as much as possible in an environment that holds that students can learn pretty much anything they put their mind ... read more

I graduated from Wayne State University in 2009 with a B.S. In Education. I am dual state certified in Elementary Education and Middle Grades Science in the states of North Carolina and Michigan. I have a full year of teaching experience and have worked with small groups from grades 2-5 in Reading and Math. I have also tutored at a local day care for a year as well.
I believe that all students have the ability to learn and succeed. I believe that learning is not an option for students. I also believe that children learn through inquiry. Students also learn through their different intelligences and I employ these strategies in order for ALL students to learn in their intelligence or intelligences.

My experience in teaching in the the ESL adult learning education, college secretarial courses and Junior HS all subjects. I enjoyed the thrill of teaching beginning students and student that needed to improve skills for the jog market. I was responsible for assessments, lesson plans, daily and weekly exams. The most important part of teaching is building a students self esteem in challenging subjects and allowing some self directed assessments.
I do believe that everyone has a different way of learning. Some students need more visual instruction, especially the younger learner or the learner that may have been away from school for a period of time. Some like to work on their own but be guided by instruction, review, question and answer and timed testing to insure that they have mastered a lesson. I do enjoy taking the individual time to talk to students and find out what makes th ... read more
