My comments on tutoring Sculpting : Sculpture covers many different facets of creation, and we can take this is countless directions.

I believe in Art History being implemented in some of the classes, but I know that students also benefit from a hands-on approach to learning Art. I often introduce a new concept and touch on some of the steps. Most importantly, I often show an example of the finished outcome. Students then have at least a vague concept of what they are working toward. We then take the project(s) step by step and guided practice is used at first and then independent practice continues as I continue to help each student directly. If the session is one-on-one, I will work closely with the student but will only suggest changes and offer ideas occasionally and if asked. Students often need a chance to use their own creativity to thrive and make projects individual.

As I mentioned in the above paragraph, I meet the child where they are in their learning style. I can adapt to how they learn best and then use different activities and tools to again, "drive home" the concept of what the child may be struggling with. I love teaching anything!
When I graduated with my Bachelor of Science degree in 2002, I accepted a job at a small school in upstate NY that needed a PE teacher. I quickly learned to just relax and "go with the flow" of how the students learned the material and what kind of different activities that we could do to "drive home" the concept of what we were studying. I also learned to be very flexible. I wore many many different hats that first year of teaching which has given me to experience I needed in my recent years of teaching. I have always wanted to teach. When I was a child I would round up the kids in my neighborhood and make them do lessons that I created. I do remember they did not like that. I went to college and earned a BS in Biology always knowing that I would eventually teach the sciences. I was an excellent student and have always found pride in myself on my ability to communicate with clearity. I have one year of tutoring experience at the k-12 level. I think that it is not enough to help students learn; they should be taught how to learn. I am a strong believer in learning concepts before applying them to situations.
