My comments on tutoring Sculpting : Sculpture covers many different facets of creation, and we can take this is countless directions.

I believe in Art History being implemented in some of the classes, but I know that students also benefit from a hands-on approach to learning Art. I often introduce a new concept and touch on some of the steps. Most importantly, I often show an example of the finished outcome. Students then have at least a vague concept of what they are working toward. We then take the project(s) step by step and guided practice is used at first and then independent practice continues as I continue to help each student directly. If the session is one-on-one, I will work closely with the student but will only suggest changes and offer ideas occasionally and if asked. Students often need a chance to use their own creativity to thrive and make projects individual.

I enjoy helping people learn something new. I think anyone can do anything they put their mind to. I would allow the student time to get to know me so they would feel comfortable with me. Students sometimes feel too vulnerable to try things when they don't know someone because they do not want to make mistakes. I would let them know that the only way to get better at something is to make mistakes so they can learn from those mistakes by making the appropriate corrections. Confidence is key. When I graduated with my Bachelor of Science degree in 2002, I accepted a job at a small school in upstate NY that needed a PE teacher. I quickly learned to just relax and "go with the flow" of how the students learned the material and what kind of different activities that we could do to "drive home" the concept of what we were studying. I also learned to be very flexible. I wore many many different hats that first year of teaching which has given me to experience I needed in my recent years of teaching. I am passionate about sports, athletics, history and teaching as a whole!
As I mentioned in the above paragraph, I meet the child where they are in their learning style. I can adapt to how they learn best and then use different activities and tools to again, "drive home" the concept of what the child may be struggling with. I love teaching anything!

I would say that my teaching style is very interactive. Anyone can give instructions but I love feedback from a one on one situation as well as a group environment. I base alot of my instruction on analogies; when a person can relate an experience or another word to a term being tought, their understanding is broadened and 99% of the time embedded in the longterm memory. That to me is not only developing the ability to draw on a built up knowledge base, but also broadens ones ability to convey what has been learned.
