My teaching style is relaxed, but focused. I believe all children can be natural learners, especially when they find something that interests them. Patience is the key with children. Every child has their own pace and learning style. Some are very visual learners while others need to be able to be more hands-on. It is very rewarding helping someone succeed.

A Little Bit About Me...

I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.
I feel children are very self-aware and are very vulnerable to positive and negative feedback. Therefore, no matter how little progress is made, praise them. If no progerss is made or if an issue needs to re-addressed, praise them..."That was great, but let's try it this way!" I like to teach with a light touch. As a parent I have nurtured teenagers through challenging times. My experience has taught me that most kids only want to study those subjects that interest them. Unfortunately, they have to study even their least favorite subjects. I have found that once they start to do better in a given subject, their interest in it increases and the grades improve soon afterward. Learning can be fun, but getting good grades is even more so.
