A Little Bit About Me...

I have been able to tutor at the college level in subjects such as chemistry and anatomy and physiology for a brief period of time while I was a student at Northwest Shoals Community College. After I finished my BS at University of North Alabama, I taught for a year at Shoals Christian. There I taught high school physical science courses. Currently I am a lab assistant/tutor at Northwest Shoals Community College where I help students with lower level college math.
I enjoy the interaction with the students when I taught at Shoals Christian. I am more of a concepts kind of guy, wanting the student to grasp the concept of what is going on in a specific problem. I enjoy helping others and serving them through the tutoring opportunities I have at the job I am currently working.

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I began tutoring while I was still in high school. I earned my BS in Elementary Education in 1980. I have tutored students of all ages in different subjects. Most of my tutoring experience has been in math and reading. I have tutored students for all sections of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam. I have been a homebound and home-school teacher, as well as a classroom teacher.
I love to help children learn! It is so rewarding to see the reaction of a child who suddenly understands what he has been trying to learn. While tutoring at my college, I received specialized training on identifying and adjusting to different learning styles. I use this knowledge to tailor each session to the needs of the individual student. To track progress, I like to set both short-term and long-term goals and create manageable steps toward reaching these goals. I also think it is important to teach students to establish general study skills so that they can make their own study plans for future courses.
For many years, education has been one of my top priorities. I graduated salutatorian of my high school class and summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences. In high school, I tutored in a local elementary school, focusing on developing students' grammar and composition skills. While in college, I tutored chemistry, biology, physics and math courses up to graduate levels.
