I grew up in Texas and attended Abilene Christian University for four years. This also included two summers in Mexico. I lack only one semester completing my BA in Spanish. However, I chose to marry a Canadian and instead of finishing my degree, I moved to Canada. Over the years, I have periodically used my Spanish while travelling to places such as Honduras and Panama. Last year, I was offered a position as an in-class tutor/translator in our local school system for three Spanish-speaking children. Recently, I was asked to translate a business meeting for a well-known insurance company.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have spent 4 years as a Spanish teacher and the past two years as a substitute teacher while working on my master's degree in Special Education. I have had many experiences with many different levels of learners both as a Spanish teacher and as a sub. Subbing has given me the opportunity to work with kids K-12 in a variety of different learning levels and subject areas. I try to get most of my sub days in special education classrooms to ready myself for my upcoming start to a new career. I like to teach by example and give the student the opportunity to learn by doing. I do not do the work for the student, but instead allow him or her to do the work with my support until he or she is capable of doing the work independently. I am patient and thorough with my work. I do not get angry and I do not act strict with students.
