My comments on tutoring Florida Writes : I am currently tutoring students in preparatiion for Florida Writes.

I have been a teacher for 40 years. I retired because family care-giving required my full attention. My studies prepared me to teach and my experience prepared me to meet the needs of each student. I am experienced in all areas of Language Arts; reading, writing, grammar and literature as well as elementary math, history, psychology and the arts. I can help students with the organizational and learning skills that are important in a student’s success.
I have always been a teacher. I taught swimming when I was 14 and French to fifth graders when I was in high school. I love working in education. I believe that all people, young and old, can learn and reach their potential. My teaching style is calm and patient. I have a good sense of humor and am creative. Experienced Tutor

I enjoy teaching and working with children. While I believe that all children can learn, they do so in their own ways and at their own pace. It is the tutor’s responsibility to ensure that the student(s) understand the material. It is important to show students how one idea builds on the last. I will help your child learn the material in his/her own way. I consider myself to be patient, non-judgmental, and knowledgeable of the subject matter. I truly believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. I am very proud of the kind letters of thanks that I have received from parents of some of my students this year.
As an engineer and I have taught planners and engineers how to use software to do calculations. I have taught GRE preparation for Kaplan (analytical and verbal reasoning) both to small classes of 3 to 7 ... read more

Honors High School Graduate with experience in teaching

My lessons can range from private lessons to group lessons of no more than five at one time. I prefer to be very involved in my students' progress, and will readily explain any questions that they do not understand. My main strategy is basically to lay out the concepts that will be covered that day, go over several practice problems, and give three or four practice problems for the students to work on independently. For art students, I will demonstrate with explanation the concept that we will be covering in that lesson (be it portraiture basics or still life basics), draw diagrams with the steps clearly labeled, and have the student independently work on a similar piece which applies the same concepts. I will supervise the student's progress and correct any lasting errors, but I prefer to have the students produce an almost entirely independently produced piece each session.

I believe every student has their own style of learing. I am very much a visual learner and utilize this style. Many students, though, are tactile learners and/or find their attention is kept using computers. I love discovering what type of learner each child is. I like to always be positive and instill in my students that they can accomplish anything we just have to work together and discover their "niche". Seeing a child grow and succeed is my greatest reward.

Extremely patient, cool tutor wanting to help you

Extremely patient, but organized. Teach students how to be organized, how to properly prepare for tests and to be able to recall information when needed.
Seven years of experience as a case manager with Healthy Families, where we helped teach families for to be better parents and to become self-sufficient. Besides being extremely organized, I am very patient and try to reach everyone on whatever level they are currently on. I don't just shove a bunch of information at you and hope you get it. Instead, I build on what strengths you already have, and show you how to use your unique, individual learning style when I am tutoring you. My strengths have always been writing, spelling, and all things related to Language Arts/English Comp. Also, I have always been pretty successful at test taking and study techniques.

More About This Tutor...

I have been teaching/tutoring since I was 15 years old. Throughout high school I taught Sunday school and tutored. For a year in college I tutored at a day care center. I also volunteered with children with the Reading Buddies and Dream Center, a center for at-risk children. I taught school in the Netherlands for three months and served a semester at Joan Walker Elementary teaching kindergarten and third grade. Currently, I am teaching a fifth grade class of 28 students, 10 of whom are SLD.
I try to relate well to and form good relationships with my students. I have learned through my own experiences and through UCF, various teaching styles; however, the most important element in my style is to listen and to adjust to each child and listen to his/her needs. I want them to understand the importance of the material and why they are learning it. I use a lot of positive reinforcement.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a strong passion for education and I possess a can do attitude when it comes to learning. I believe that ALL students can learn however many express frustration with the learning process and ultimately give up when faced with difficulty or challenge. It is the role of the teacher/tutor/educator to first motivate the student and then teach the student the necessary strategies needed to achieve mastery. By simply focusing on the building blocks of learning, students become more confident and self-sufficient learners. This ultimately leads to a more successful student. I am committed to making a positive difference in the lives of every student that I teach.

My teaching style is firm yet loving. All students learn at their own pace in their own way. It is important to observe and listen to see what works for an individual child. Since I have been tutoring and teaching for a while, I have had the opportunity to work with many different teachers and students. There is never a magic formula, but there are certain proven methods that can be implemented with success in various situations. Children are unique individuals, very much like adults are. It's important to see what works, not to try to fit someone in a mold.
