I'm a math minor at the University of Montana, and I've been tutoring at the Math Learning Center there since I was a freshman. I have experience tutoring with all of the classes listed, and I learned a lot of them from different institutions so I can help give a new way of thinking about the subject.
I try to teach conversationally and help students get comfortable with the process of doing the problems over just giving the answers. I have experience tutoring math over the last 4 years. I have been in the high level math classes throughout my entire life. I am a very thorough when i teach and make sure the student understands the material before moving on. I am extremely patient and make sure I move at a speed that the student understands. The style of teaching that I use is experience. I believe that people learn best when they work through and actually practice the issues. For example, in mathematics I believe it is very important to practice math problems. Not to memorize the answers but the memorize the formula for working through a problem. When they are working through the problems I try and answer any questions that they may have, so that they develop speed and accuracy, that way when a test comes they are fully equipped with the skills they need to get a good grade in a relatively quick manor.

Story, metaphor and an understanding of the student having “the idea before the subject being taught” are vital. For me, the underlying concepts are of vital importance before true learning can occur. Knowing what a “mammal” is comes before knowing how we classify “mammals”.
